As we all know that another name of India is Hindustan and India is a country where majority of the population are Hindu. Among numerous Hindu festivals, Rath Yatra is a very famous festival for the people of the city Puri, in the state of Orissa. The occasion usually comes during the month of June or July (according to a tithi in Hindu’s calendar). The festival of Rath Yatra is widely considered as a journey of lord Jagannath to his aunt’s (mom’s sister) place at Gundicha temple that is two kilometers away from his home. In this journey of lord Jagannath, he is followed by his brother Balaram and sister Shubhadra. Lord Jagannath is an avatar of lord Krishna (very famous god of the Hindu religion). The famous Jagannath temple in Puri is regarded as the house of lord Jagannath from where he starts his journey on the day of Rath Yatra. He along with his siblings stays at his aunt’s (mom’s sister) place for seven days and return to his place (Jagannath temple) after seven days that is termed as the day of Ulto Rath. Both the journeys take place via the route on streets. The Rath Yatra is carried out in three different raths (chariots) for these three siblings.
